Oumar Farouk Sesay is a Sierra Leonean poet, playwright and novelist whose work moves across poetry, theatre, journalism and fiction. His writing has appeared in numerous anthologies of Sierra Leonean poetry, bringing local experience into conversation with readers at home and abroad.
Selected books
Sesay made his book debut with Salute to the Remains of a Peasant in 2007. His later works include The Edge of a Cry, Broken Metaphor, Before the Twisted Rib and 400 Years of Servitude.
Across languages
Selections of his poetry have been translated into Spanish and German, extending the reach of his work beyond English-language audiences.

Sesay co-edited LET HER BE: An Anthology of Poems on Women’s Sexual Health & Rights with Elizabeth L. A. Kamara. The collection brings together Sierra Leonean and African voices around women’s rights, resilience and lived experience.
