A dependable discussion method

Prepare, ground, discuss and follow through

  1. Prepare the setting. State the purpose, participants, time available and ground rules before discussion begins.
  2. Ground claims in the work. Distinguish what the text says from personal experience, inference and disagreement.
  3. Invite more than one voice. Make room for reflection, questions and respectful challenge without requiring personal disclosure.
  4. End with a useful record. Capture the strongest questions, points of agreement, unresolved issues and any responsible next action.

Responsible use

Use the resource; respect the work.

Unless an individual resource states otherwise, materials may be used for personal reading and non-commercial discussion. Reproduction, adaptation, institutional distribution, course-pack inclusion, paid training, recording or republication may require written permission.
